Letter of Agreement for 2023/2024

Requirements for the 2023/2024 touring year (July 2023 to June 2024):

2023-24 Letter of Agreement

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is committed to the mission of enriching the community by collecting, preserving, and making accessible outstanding works of art from the world’s diverse cultures. As a Mia Guide, you are integral to fulfilling that mission. We are proud of the standards of excellence in learning and collaboration that our volunteer program represents. Each individual associated with our program is responsible for maintaining these standards.

As a member of the Mia Guide program, we ask you to commit to the following requirements:

  • Have a working email address and check it three times a week for Mia announcements and to access assignment information through the Tour Office scheduling system StaffSavvy.
  • Commit to fulfilling 24 to 40 tour credits for touring year 2023-2024 (ends June 30, 2024). Guides may be assigned to more than one tour a month to fulfill the required tour credits. Some assignments (Stop & Chat and Cross Currents) are two credits per assigned shift.
  • Attend a minimum of six Continuing Education (CE) sessions, including two required cultural fluency sessions. Guides who cannot attend a required cultural fluency session must make it up by viewing a recording of the session and completing an online survey.
  • Be present in the museum at least 20 minutes before your tour time. Consistent tardiness and/or three (3) no-shows are grounds for being excused from the program. In the case of three “no shows” or repetitive tardiness, there will be a discussion with Mia Educators and the Guide Council regarding further action.
  • Secure your own substitutes for tour assignments. Contact the Tour Office if you need guidance on how to secure a substitute guide.
  • Participate in the Learning Department’s tour observation feedback and reflection process as required.
  • As necessary, follow the appropriate policies and procedures for contact and communication with tour organizers (school or private group contacts) and other guides.
  • Follow the protocol for checking out or requesting a leave of absence in StaffSavvy. (This is available at My Account/My Availability/Request Time Off.)
  • Mia Guides may be assigned to tour one special exhibition each year and must attend all pertinent training (exhibition lecture, walk-through with curator and, when applicable, a special session for school tours). When there is an exhibition catalog, guides will be given a complimentary copy.
  • If you are a school guide, be available for two (2) tour assignments on a full day per week, Tuesday through Friday, unless otherwise approved by staff.

To renew your commitment to the program and affirm your agreement to the above requirements, please complete this short Google form by end of day, September 30, by clicking on the link below:
Letter of Agreement signature form
An automatic response receipt will be sent, via email, for your records.

Regarding the actions we asked guides to take in StaffSavvy, to add to your “About Me” information and confirm or change your tour day, here is a PDF showing the screenshots from StaffSavvy, outlining all the steps needed for each action:
